Reflection

-I sit in a room, alone, at night in a daze
With demons to face, in moonlight’s embrace
Glaring at a disgrace.
It glares back, disgust etched on its face
I contemplate the mirror deface.

But that won’t help me now, I’ve seen what I’ve lost,
The lovestruck abandoned, the hearts that I’ve hardened,
The lines that I’ve crossed,
-I glance once more at the glass
Hoping I’ll be reflected at last

I’ve tried looking on, but I can’t meet those eyes
And I can’t force a smile despite how hard I try,
Mascara runs, as the tears fall and dry,
There’s sobs, sighs and cries and I’m wondering why

-But “why?” is not a question with answers to spare
-Despite being a question I see everywhere.
I chance one more look into the glass
Hoping that I’ll be reflected at last.

I feel it inside, trying to break free
Shackled and buried, imprisoned within
I feel it inside, so why can’t I see,
Anything in this reflection of me.

The being I was, Who I long to be,
Is taunting, is glaring, is staring at me.
So mirror mirror, won’t you close your eyes?
Dispel the memories, the promise, the lies.

Yet the deafening heartbeat, keeps drumming along.
